Having a strong username and password makes it harder for bad actors to be bad.
Does your username or password contain your personal identifying information, such as your name, social security number, or bank account number? It’s time to change your Republic Bank username and password in your account Login Security Settings.
Here are some best practices to remember when creating and keeping track of your username and password.
- Use a mix of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters or symbols.
If your username or password does not contain any numbers or special symbols, your account may be vulnerable to the bad guys guessing your usernames and passwords and attempting to take over your accounts. Consider using a string of random words for easy memorization and set aside time to review and update usernames and passwords periodically.
- Avoid using personal identifying information.
Personal identifying information such as your first and/or last name, address, social security number, birth date, email address, and bank account numbers should never be used. Make it hard to guess.
Choose a username that isn’t easily identifiable with you or your personal life.
- Use different usernames and passwords for different accounts.
Come up with a unique username and password across multiple accounts. If you have an account at another bank, it’s best to not reuse the same username and password.
- Pay attention to one-time passcode requests.
If you get a call or text with a one-time passcode you did not request, contact us right away. Anyone contacting you asking for a one-time passcode to access your account to verify a transaction or unlock your account is not Republic Bank. Refuse to share it and contact us using the number on the back of your card.
- Length matters.
Consider aiming for a password that’s at least 10-12 characters long.
